An Indo-Pacific Humpbacked Dolphin Safari

Our Dolphin Safaris have grabbed the attention of many an international tourist for the past couple of decades. It is our only trip that has a “no see – no pay” policy, which means that unless or until you see a dolphin we will not take a dime from you.

The Trip

Journey from the boat jetty into open Goan waters and shoot exhilarating Indo-Pacific Humpbacked Dolphins in their natural habitat. These gentle giants exude pure happiness in their movements and have no qualms about putting on a show for onlookers.
Keep those cameras ‘ON’ as there’s much more to this dolphin safari than meets the eye. Gaze in amazement at Goa’s only Portuguese Fortress – Aguada Fort, which remains intact till this very day. Dream on as you take a sneak peak at the famous Millionaire’s Palace that overlooks the Arabian Sea. Set your sights on Goa’s largest ever jail to date. It was not too long ago that you would experience the surreal moment of prisoners waving at you from the windows of Goa’s ageless Portuguese Jail, which is currently being re-purposed as a museum. You can also catch a glimpse of fishing trawlers, iron-ore barges and other such country crafts.
Once you’ve had your fill of the many sights, we ride you back to the boat jetty having helped you make memories to last a lifetime.

Indo-Pacific Humpbacked Dolphins

Sousa Chinesis or the Indo-Pacific Humpbacked Dolphin is a dolphin species found near coastal belts running the entire breadth of South Asia and Northern Australia in the east to Southern Africa in the west. Sadly, the Indo-Pacific Humpbacked Dolphin is now an endangered species according to IUCM (International Union for Conservation of Nature).
There are two types of subspecies of Indo-Pacific Humpbacked Dolphins: Chinese white dolphin (Chinensis-type) found in Northern Australia and Southeast Asia and the Plumbea-type found along the east-coast of the Northern Indian Ocean and Africa and the south-coast of the Middle East running through India.
After more research however, DNA tests have indicated that dolphins of the Chinensis-type variety that hail from Southeast Asia are closer in relation to the Plumbea-type variety than the Chinensis-type variety from Australia.
The Indo-Pacific Humpbacked Dolphin dwells near the coastline and normally stays within a couple of miles of the shoreline and prefers water that is less than 20 meters (66 ft) deep. At times it enters river systems, but more often than not it does not swim too far upstream.

Aguada Fort

Standing tall on the headland of Aguada hill, the Aguada Fort overlooks the mouth of the Mandovi River and occupies a successful and magnificent position, which is confirmed by the record of it never been taken by force. Aguada Fort is a highly popular location for visual porn in the shape of un-uninterrupted views to the south and north as well as majestic sunsets.
The fort was constructed in the year 1612, following the ever increasing threat to Goa’s then Portuguese rulers by the Dutch, amongst others.

Millionaire’s Palace

Designed by a Goan architect by the name of Gerard de Cunha, this home belongs to the Parsi entrepreneur – Jimmy Gazdar. The mansion is located near the Aguada Central Jail or Portuguese Jail.
The reclusive businessman lives alone in his king sized mansion that boasts of an assortment of different architectural masterpieces. The mansion however is also designed to keep guests entertained, which is clear with the construction of three dance floors and a magnificent foyer. These facilities are made use of when Mr. Gazdar hosts his annual private events.

Portuguese Jail

Below the Aguada Fort you find the Central Aguada jail, more famously known as the Portuguese Jail. It was Goa’s largest prison till not too long ago, whose cells once formed Ford Aguada’s square-shaped citadel. The prison now repurposed as a tourist attraction, during its last few years in operation housed mainly inmates serving sentences for smuggling and drug possession, including a group of long-staying foreigners.
